Volunteers from around Western Mass. journeyed Sunday along back roads through dense woods to help the first commercial hazelnut farm bring in its 2024 harvest.
Seva and Kalyon Water work an off-the-grid, sustainable farm on Porter Hill Road in Cummington that raises not just hazelnuts, but sheep — and hopefully soon a fish-filled pond. Each part of the farm is designed to complement the next. While hazelnuts dominate, the Waters produce chestnuts and walnuts.
