A new study has revealed the world’s most expensive cities, and one in Massachusetts cracked the top five.
Internet database Numbeo released a Cost of Living Index earlier this month that ranks the world’s most expensive cities by assessing factors like the cost of groceries, eating in restaurants and local purchasing power. The cities are then given a cost of living score and ranked appropriately.
Boston came in at No. 5 on the list. The city was preceded by Geneva, Switzerland (1), Zurich, Switzerland (2), New York City (3) and San Francisco (4).
The world’s top 20 most expensive cities, according to Numbeo’s index, are as follows:

Boston was also the only New England city to make the list, which featured 218 cities.
