BOSTON — The Red Sox will use righty Zack Kelly as an opener in the second game Monday against the Blue Jays.
Boston lost 4-1 to Toronto in the suspended game from June 26 it resumed earlier Monday.
Righty José Berríos (12-9, 3.79 ERA in 26 starts) will pitch the second game for the Blue Jays.
The Red Sox dropped to 29-36 at home and 14-21 during the second half. They are 67-63 overall this season.
They have lost all four games on this homestand so far, although technically the suspended game loss reverts back to the date of the original game. So technically they have only lost three straight games.
The Red Sox will have roster moves coming before the second game. They are able to add a 27th player.
Nick Pivetta started the first game and went 6 innings and allowed three runs, two earned runs, four hits and 10 strikeouts. Boston’s offense struggled again, recording just four hits.
