SOUTHWICK — The’s no question that the town’s sewer rate will be increased before Oct. 1. The debate is over how much.
“I know this rate’s gotta go up, and it ain’t going to be pretty,” said Select Board Chair Jason Perron at the board’s Aug. 12 meeting. He said the increase should make the burden more “fair” for all the town’s taxpayers, who each year subsidize the sewer department to balance its budget — even property owners who live outside the sewer service area and don’t use it.
Board member Diane Gale immediately fired back at Perron about the “fairness” of a significant rate increase.
