A brightly colored blue peacock has gone loose from its owners in Cape Cod. And if you see it, don’t feed it, capture or chase it, officials warned.
This missing bird from the North Westgate Road area is named Pete and he was chased off his property on Aug. 11, Harwich Animal Control said.
Peter is nervous around people so please do not chase or attempt to catch him, animal control said.
And in case you were wondering, this isn’t the Brewster free-roaming peacock that’s been spotted on Cahoon Road/Long Pond and Route 137, the Harwich Animal Control wrote on Facebook Tuesday.
Animal control added that Pete was last seen near North Westgate Road and Cahoon Lane.
Pete’s owner told animal control that one reason his peacock hasn’t come home is because people on Cahoon Lane keep feeding him.
The Harwich Animal Control advised people to not feed Pete.
Peacocks return to their homes if they aren’t being fed elsewhere, animal control stated.
“It is very difficult to catch them as they can get flight and we can not trap them as trapping birds can cause serious damage,” the Control added.
The Harwich Animal Control said the owner would try to capture Pete on Tuesday afternoon.
