BOSTON — Like every other team in baseball, the Red Sox have reached the dog days of the season. It’s August, and the innings — and injuries — have piled up, wreaking havoc on their pitching staff.
As a result, it’s often all hands on deck. Pitchers who might otherwise prefer a day off from throwing find themselves volunteering to contribute an inning if need be.
