BOSTON — The Red Sox had a bullpen game Saturday and needed 25 outs from their relievers Sunday after James Paxton left the game against the Astros with a calf strain in the first inning. Needless to say, the club’s pitching staff is on fumes.
With that as the backdrop, multiple roster moves are expected before Monday’s series opener against Texas. One will involve lefty reliever Brennan Bernardino, who was optioned to Triple-A Worcester after a prolonged period of struggles. Brayan Bello will be activated off the paternity list to make his scheduled start. Paxton will almost certainly be placed on the injured list. And more moves could come, too.
