All Worcester Public Library branches will be closed on Friday after a patron hit a library staff member with a skateboard on Thursday, City Manager Eric D. Batista’s office announced.
The incident occurred at the library’s main branch at 3 Salem Square on Thursday afternoon, roughly an hour before the library was set to close. After the staff member was hit, the library closed early to allow leadership to meet with employees, Batista’s office said in a statement.
Batista and Worcester Public Library Executive Director Jason Homer also met with staff to discuss the incident and discuss concerns about safety.
