The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office is citing an Amazon subcontractor for nearly $400,000 in wage violations connected to the construction of a North Andover warehouse that opened this spring, the attorney general’s office announced Tuesday.
The subcontractor — Florida-based B&B Conveyors — brought up workers from Florida and other states to install conveyor belts in the new Amazon facility, but then let them go weeks without receiving pay, the attorney general’s office said in a press release. The subcontractor is also accused of failing to pay its workers “per diem” payments meant to cover their housing costs, or, in some cases, only paying workers their per diem compensation.
An investigation into the construction of the Amazon warehouse found that as many as 76 B&B Conveyors workers were routinely denied paychecks, the attorney general’s office said. As of Tuesday, these employees still haven’t received all their earned wages — including overtime wages — despite the attorney general’s office’s push to have them compensated.
