Thursday marks an important date on Vaughn Grissom’s rehab calendar — but it’s far from a sure thing that the second baseman will join the Red Sox instead of remaining at Triple-A for a bit longer.
Grissom, who is on the injured list with a right hamstring strain, has been on a rehab assignment with Worcester since July 20. Wednesday marks the 20th day of that assignment, which is the maximum for rehabbing position players. Therefore, a roster decision is due for the Red Sox during their off day Thursday. They can either add Grissom back to the active roster or, for the first time this year, option him to the minors.
