The United States women’s basketball team clinched a quarterfinal berth with a dominant 87-68 win over Germany in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday. Team USA went 3-0 in Group C and has now won 58 straight games in the Olympics.
Jackie Young had a team-high 19 points, while Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson put up 14 points and added four steals. New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart scored 13 points with three boards.
Team USA started slow, but found its groove and held Germany to just 10 points in the second quarter — which allowed the U.S. to build a lead too difficult for its opponent to overcome.

“It’s exciting,” Alyssa Thomas said during her interview after the game on NBC. “I grew up watching the Olympics. Now I’m here with the best athletes in the world, and just trying to soak it in as much as I can.”
Thomas came off the bench in the win with six points and five assists. The depth the U.S. boasts has helped them dominate their time in the Olympics.
“We knew we had a lot of depth. We played against each other all year round in the W,” Thomas said. “And we didn’t have the greatest start today, but that’s the luxury we have with this team.”
The Olympics quarterfinals begin Wednesday as Team USA continues its quest for a gold medal.
