Oshae Brissett remains a free agent after winning an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in June. He declined his $2.46 million option for the 2024-25 NBA season, turned down playing for Team Canada in the Olympics and decided to test the market. And even though he elected to see what else was out there, Brissett hasn’t ruled out a potential return to Boston.
“I’m still a free agent now, talking to some teams. You guys will all see obviously when it happens, where I end up. That’s full transparency, man,” Brissett said during his YouTube show, “BrissyTV”. “At the end of the day, that’s what it comes down to. I love every single part about being a Boston Celtic. And I could go back, who freakin’ knows? Hey, the door’s not closed fully. There’s still a spot on the team. Who knows?”
Brissett averaged a career-low 11.5 minutes per game in 55 games for the Celtics last season while averaging 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds. Once Boston made it to the playoffs, his roll diminished even more as Brissett averaged 5.5 minutes and didn’t play in nine games.

The Celtics have essentially brought back their entire championship team for the 2024-25 season save for a few bench players. Jayson Tatum agreed to his supermax contract, Jaylen Brown signed his last summer, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis each reached extensions and Al Horford confirmed he was coming back next year.
It’s unclear if the Celtics will try to bring Brissett back, but a team can never have too much depth. It not only helped the 2023-24 NBA champions in blowout wins, but also losses as showcased in Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks when coach Joe Mazzulla removed his starters for the second half.
Playing with the Celtics was Brissett’s “best season,” he said. But it wasn’t because the won Banner 18. It was because he believed he grew a lot as a player both on and off the court.
“Watching literal Hall of Famers all day, practicing with Hall of Famers, you grow. I’m a sponge, a basketball sponge. I like to learn things,” Brissett said. “That, to me, was the reason I would say that was the best season of my career.”
There’s still plenty of time for Brissett to land somewhere in free agency — whether that’s Boston or elsewhere.
