Hundreds of workers at two hospitals owned by bankrupt hospital chain Steward Health Care will be laid off by the end of August, as the company barrels ahead with the closure of two of its Massachusetts facilities — in Dorchester and Ayer.
In all, 1,243 workers will lose their jobs across Carney Hospital in Dorchester and Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, state filings show. The state’s Department of Career Services received the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification from Steward on July 29, reporting that the layoffs would take place on Aug. 31.
