Mass. mayor slams landlord after young child falls from 3rd-floor balcony

Revere Mayor Patrick Keefe in a statement on Thursday called the conditions at a Shirley Avenue apartment building where a child fell from a third-floor balcony “unacceptable” and cited the property for several building violations.

The child, who was younger than 6, was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital in critical condition after falling from the balcony, NBC Boston reported. A spokesperson for Revere Police told The Boston Globe on Thursday that the child was in stable condition.

“I am praying for the speedy recovery of the child that was injured in yesterday’s tragic accident, and for his family and loved ones,” Keefe wrote in a statement posted to Facebook. “I am grateful to our first responders for their swift action in providing aid. No family should have to live in unsafe housing conditions and landlords have a responsibility to ensure safety for their tenants.”
