Overpass planned for West Springfield’s troubled Front Street rail crossing

WEST SPRINGFIELD — Parked railcars blocking a key route and the risk of train strikes will be a thing of the past thanks to a $20 million project to build an overpass at the Front Street rail crossing in West Springfield.

U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, alongside state Rail and Transit Administrator Meredith Slesinger and local officials, announced Monday that federal funds and a $2 million contribution from CSX Transportation are being put toward the project.
