Mass. man convicted of rape for assault at Red Roof Inn, prosecutors say

A 37-year-old man was convicted on two counts of rape for sexually assaulting a woman at a Red Roof Inn in Framingham in April 2022, officials announced Tuesday.

Lance McDonald, of Framingham, was also convicted on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and wiretap violation in connection with the assault, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Framingham Police Chief Lester Baker said in a joint statement.

On April 25, 2022, McDonald arranged to meet a 42-year-old woman at the hotel in response to an advertisement for sexual services. When he arrived to the hotel, McDonald physically and sexually assaulted the woman, officials said. McDonald also grabbed a knife and threatened to kill the woman, before hitting her in the head with a coat hanger and robbing her.

The woman reported the incident to police and McDonald was identified as a suspect based on information she provided them and a screenshot of surveillance footage from the hotel, Ryan and Baker said in the statement. During a search of McDonald’s phone, they found a recording of the assault, which he took without the woman’s knowledge or consent.

McDonald’s sentencing is scheduled for July 31.
