LOS ANGELES — From the start, the Red Sox studiously avoided providing a timetable for the expected return of Triston Casas from an April ribcage injury. That was partly done to avoid putting any additional pressure on Casas to return prematurely and also because the nature of such injuries make them notoriously difficult to predict an accurate recovery time.
At first, Casas had earmarked July 1 for his return. Then, he began to aim for the start of the second half. But given that the first baseman has yet to even take batting practice, or, for that matter, done more than take dry swings and hit off a tee, those goals have come and gone.
