After temperatures across the state approached and in some areas exceeded 90 degrees on Monday, forecasters at the National Weather Service are cautioning that it will be even hotter on Tuesday as Massachusetts continues to deal with a stretch of intense warm weather.
The heat and humidity will continue “to a greater magnitude” on Tuesday, according to forecasters, who said feels-like temperatures could be as warm as 102 degrees across the Bay State. Forecasted high temperatures in many areas of the state are close to or above 95 degrees on Tuesday.
In Boston, the projected high temperature on Tuesday is a whopping 96 degrees, the same forecasted high for Springfield. It will be slightly cooler in Worcester, with a projection of 94 degrees.
Temperatures will be significantly cooler — but still hot — in The Berkshires and on Cape Cod, with a high of 88 projected in Pittsfield and Barnstable.
There is also a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, though forecasters said it is unlikely the state will see any severe weather.
“Timing of any storms would be in the evening (after 6 pm) with diminishing chances after sunset,” forecasters wrote.
There is a slight risk of severe storms in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut on Tuesday, with the most serious impacts being damaging winds and hail.
And on Wednesday forecasters project “more of the same.” But, they said residents of the Bay State can “take solace in the fact that [it] will be our last day of the seemingly endless humidity we’ve been dealing with of late.”
“A cold front will be knocking on our door heralding relief from the oppressive heat,” forecasters wrote.
That cold front will usher in “dry and seasonal weather” beginning Thursday and lasting through the weekend.
“Temperatures will be much more comfortable Thursday and Friday with highs in the low to mid 80s, warming into the upper 80s for the weekend,” forecasters wrote. “Overnight lows will also stay more comfortable in the low to mid 60s through the weekend.”
