Parts of Massachusetts are still under a heat advisory and temperatures in most areas of the state could approach or even top 90 degrees, but National Weather Service Forecasters say some relief could come from the “oppressive heat and humidity” that has blanketed the state in recent days.
Still, in Boston, the forecasted high on Thursday is 91 degrees. Forecasters say it will be slightly cooler in Worcester, with a forecasted high of 88 degrees. But it will be even warmer in Springfield, with a projected high of 92 degrees.
The Berkshires will see temperatures below 90 degrees, “with a high of 86 degrees in Pittsfield on Thursday and it will be significantly cooler out on Cape Cod, with a forecasted high near 82 degrees in Barnstable.
Some showers are expected early in the day Thursday, potentially offsetting some of the heat, but forecasters say the precipitation will be quickly replaced by “plenty of sunshine.”
“Gusty southwest winds” from Wednesday will also contribute to the minor cool-down on Thursday, according to forecasts.
The true relief will come Thursday night, when temperatures could fall below 70 degrees for the first time in several days in most areas.
But heat will return Friday, with feels-like temperatures in most of the state rising above 90 degrees again. Into the weekend, forecasters warned of “pockets of torrential rainfall & localized flash flooding” with the possibility of showers and embedded thunderstorms.
