MIAMI — Nick Pivetta almost provided some fireworks of his own on the Fourth of July. The Red Sox had to wait a bit to set them off.
A crazy back-and-forth game that started with Pivetta throwing 6 ⅔ no-hit innings at loanDepot Park ended with a series of lead changes, game-saving plays and heroic hits before the Red Sox took the lead for good in the top of the 12th and hung on to win, 6-5, to finish off a three-game sweep. David Hamilton’s swinging bunt plated Romy González for the go-ahead run, then Tyler O’Neill laced an RBI double into the gap to give Boston some breathing room. The mini-rally capped off a dramatic back-and-forth late inning sequence that included Jarren Duran saving the game with a throw home from center in the ninth inning and the Sox staving off multiple bullpen collapses.
