Mass. Weather: Expect ‘pop-up’ storms Friday

Massachusetts residents might want to make backup plans for any outdoor gatherings Friday.

“Expect isolated showers this morning, turning to scattered storms by afternoon/evening,” the National Weather Service warned.

The weather service said the placement of the storms was hard to predict. So, “be prepared for a few pop-up storms today,” it stated.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for the Berkshires due to the threat of thunderstorms during the day.

“The threat for a thunderstorm will continue for tonight for the entire area,” the weather service continued. “Any thunderstorm will be capable of producing heavy downpours, which may result in ponding of water in urban and low lying areas.”

It also warned that the heat index was “just shy of necessitating a Heat Advisory, caution is still urged for anyone spending time outdoors in order to avoid heat related illnesses.”

Western Massachusetts could see ‘torrential downpours” between 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue Saturday, especially Saturday night. Rain could continue into Sunday for those on Cape Cod.
