Brayan Bello returns to rotation with longest start of year as Red Sox win third straight

MIAMI — Brayan Bello’s struggles became so pronounced that the Red Sox, just four months after handing him a $55 million extension, temporarily unplugged him from the rotation this week. It turns out that waiting to face one of the worst teams in all of baseball was just what the doctor ordered.

Bello survived an early hit parade and logged seven strong innings for the Sox, allowing one run on seven hits in a 7-2 win over the struggling Marlins at loanDepot Park. Bello had seven strikeouts — falling one short of his season-high — and walked just one batter in his longest outing of the season. The Red Sox, winners of three in a row, are 46-39 and can finish off a sweep Thursday afternoon. It’s just the second time (June 24) they’re seven games over .500.
