The 2024 NHL Draft will start with round one on Friday, June 28 where 32 teams will choose talented prospects to hopefully help lead their team to a Stanley Cup Victory.
The NHL draft is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN. Fans looking to watch the draft can do so for free by using FuboTV or DirecTV Stream, which both offer a free trial. SlingTV doesn’t offer a free trial but has promotional offers available for streaming the draft.
Below is a list of the top 10 prospects for the draft, according to ESPN:
- 1. Macklin Celebrini
- 2. Ivan Demidov
- 3. Artyom Levshunov
- 4. Cayden Lindstrom
- 5. Zayne Parekh
- 6. Zeev Buium
- 7. Tij Iginla
- 8. Anton Silayev
- 9. Cole Eiserman
- 10. Berkly Catton
The San Jose Sharks own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft after winning the draft lottery in May. Boston University’s center Macklin Celebrini is likely to be the No. 1 pick. At 6 feet and nearly 200 pounds, the newly 18-year-old Celebrini finished second in the nation with 32 goals and third with 64 points in 38 games as college hockey’s youngest player. Though from North British Columbia, Celebrini spent a year playing for the Junior Sharks program after his father, Rick, was hired as vice president of player health and performance for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.
The Chicago Blackhawks who chose Connor Bedard No. 1 last year, won the No. 2 selection. The 12 teams that lost in the first two rounds of the playoffs were slotted into picks 17-28. Teams that did not win their division were placed in inverse order of regular-season standings points, followed by the one division winner that lost, the Vancouver Canucks.
The No. 29 pick went to the Dallas Stars who lost the conference finals with the fewest regular-season points, and No. 30 went to the New York Rangers who also lost in the conference finals.
The team that lost the Stanley Cup Final will get pick No. 31, and the Cup winners will receive No. 32, which should have been the Edmonton Oilers and the Stanley Cup Champions, the Florida Panthers, but both teams made trades. The Ducks’ selection at No. 31 is the result of the trade on March 6, 2024, that sent Sam Carrick, Ty Taylor and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Oilers, according to ESPN.
The Flyers’ selection at No. 32 is a result of the trade on March 19, 2022, that sent Claude Giroux, German Rubtsov, Connor Bunnaman to the Panthers, and Owen Tippett to the Flyers.
