Mass. woman wins final $5 million grand prize in lottery game

A Massachusetts woman won a $5 million grand lottery prize and said she’s going to buy a car — but has a special dealership in mind.

Kathy Burgess, of Lanesborough, won $5 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$5,000,000 100X Cashword” scratch ticket game. The game costs $20 per ticket to play, and this was the final grand prize to be claimed in the game.

Burgess chose to receive her prize in the form of a one-time payment of $3.25 million before taxes. She told the lottery she wants use her winnings to buy a new car from the dealership she works at, and to help her children.

She bought her grand prize ticket at the grocery store in Pittsfield located at 555 Hubbard Ave. The store will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
