BOSTON — The Red Sox have largely avoided weather-related issues at Fenway Park this season. Wednesday night was another story.
Wednesday’s Red Sox-Blue Jays game is in a rain delay after umpires put a temporary stop to play with one out in the top of the first inning and Danny Jansen at bat facing righty Kutter Crawford. The teams both failed to score in the first inning; Crawford has just issued a one-out walk to Davis Schneider and had a 0-1 count on Jansen was play was halted.
(UPDATE: Tonight’s Red Sox-Blue Jays game has been suspended due to an extended period of severe weather in the Fenway area. The game will resume on August 26 at 2:05 p.m. at the point when it was suspended with one out in the top of the 2nd inning.)

“Attention fans,” the video board read. “The game is being delayed due to weather in the area. Further updates will be provided when available. Thank you for your patience.”
It’s unclear when the game will restart. According to the National Weather Service, there’s potential rain in the forecast throughout the night.
“Showers and thunderstorms before 1am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 1am and 4am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog after 8pm. Low around 67. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.”
The Sox and Jays are playing the rubber game of a three-game series after splitting the first two. The Red Sox have Thursday off but Toronto is scheduled to open a home series against the Yankees at Rogers Centre.
