SOUTHWICK – After nearly a year, the Conservation Commission has cleared one of the hurdles to removing three trees where visitors hang illegal rope swings in the North Pond Conservation Area. Another challenge remains: finding the money to do it.
“I have no idea how we’re going to fund it,” Southwick Conservation Coordinator Sabrina Pooler said about the estimated $6,000 it will cost to drop the three trees during the commission’s meeting Monday night.
The funding issue came up while the commission debated whether removing the trees along the shoreline of the North Pond of Congamond Lakes would be a violation of the state Wetlands Protection Act.
