On June 14, the United States celebrates Flag Day, commemorating the anniversary of when America’s flag was designed, according to the United States’ Department of Veterans Affairs.
In 1777, the flag had only 13 stripes and 13 stars, which represented the original 13 colonies. That flag was carried into the battle of Brandywine and became more popular as the American Revolution continued.
Since Flag Day isn’t a national holiday in the United States, government offices, such as courthouses and post offices, are open, as are businesses.
