WORCESTER – The Worcester Railers are proud to host their annual “Hometown Heroes Night” on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the DCU Center. The puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
This annual game has remained special for the team and community. Almost 25 years ago, Worcester Fire Lt. Thomas Spencer, Paul Brotherton, Lt. Timothy Jackson, Jeremiah Lucey, Lt. James Lyons, and Joseph McGuirk died in one of the community’s greatest tragedies — The Worcester Cold Storage fire on Dec. 3, 1999.
To honor the area’s valiant men and selfless heroes, the Railers will wear “W6 specialty jerseys,” which will be auctioned off after their game against the Trois-Rivières Lions.
The jersey proceeds will benefit the Worcester Firefighters 6K, supporting NEADS World Class Service Dogs, Genesis Club, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Before the main event, the annual “Guns N’ Hoses” game, a symbol of unity and friendly competition, will take place at 2:30 p.m. It will showcase the strength and camaraderie between the Worcester Police Department and the Worcester Fire Department.

Aside from opening the season against the Reading Royals on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6:05 p.m., this is the first of five combined scheduled promotional nights the Railers have announced for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
“The groundwork for the upcoming season is underway,” Worcester Railers chief operating officer Michael G. Myers said. “We look forward to celebrating year seven alongside the best fans in ECHL hockey.”
