A 70-year-old Medford man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the car he was driving rear-ended a vehicle, slamming it into the rear of another car on Route 2 eastbound in Concord, according to Massachusetts State Police.
Steven Marchand was driving on Route 2 when his 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo rear-ended a second vehicle, pushing that vehicle into another, State Police said in a statement Wednesday evening. Marchand was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the second vehicle, a 26-year-old Stoughton man, was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was unharmed.
State Police went to the area around 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, and the left lane of Route 2 eastbound was shuttered for nearly two hours while first responders cleared the crash site. The crash remains under investigation, according to State Police.
