Teen girl facing 7 assault and battery charges for fight at Mass. high school

A 13-year-old student at Mashpee Middle-High School is facing seven counts of assault and battery in connection with a fight at the school, police announced Wednesday.

The announcement came less than an hour before Mashpee police announced that a 15-year-old student at the school who was beaten in the fight the 13-year-old is now charged in connection to had been found safe in Barnstable after a days-long search effort.

Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline said an investigation into potential accomplices who may have also been involved in the fight is ongoing and he could not comment further.

Videos of the fight circulated on Snapchat and other social media platforms. In the video, a girl wearing plaid pajama pants can be seen getting slapped, dragged into a bathroom at the school by her hair and made to lick the floor. While Carline’s statement did not name the 15-year-old, he confirmed that she was the girl seen in the video.

The 15-year-old vanished from her home on Sunday, touching off a massive search effort after police reported they believed she was “endangered.” Carline did not detail how investigators located the girl on Wednesday but said police were “confident” the search would lead to a “successful resolution.”
