SPRINGFIELD – Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts returns Sunday for a second race with more athletes expected and slightly different running and bicycling race routes.
Last year, the inaugural Ironman for the region drew 1,200 athletes following pre-race predictions of 1,400. This year, registrations for the race stand at 1,500, making the race 95% sold out, said Mary Kay Wydra, president of the Greater Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.
