Mass. craft brewery goes hog wild with beer gardens

One of the Pioneer Valley’s leading craft brewers will bring new beer gardens to Holyoke and Westfield this summer, and tweak its popular downtown Springfield events.

White Lion says it has won local approvals to host the new beer gardens.

Here’s where to find the ventures:

– In Holyoke: On Mondays, starting at 5 p.m., White Lion will serve at the city’s Armour Yard, at 164 Race St., joined by live music, food and craft vendors. Partners include the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and Holyoke Craft Beer.

“We continue to build a great rapport with Holyoke stakeholders,” said Ray Berry, president of White Lion. “The city has been very supportive.”

– In Westfield: White Lion will set up on Fridays at 5 p.m. until Aug. 30 in the newly renovated Elm Street Plaza Park. “We could not be prouder of our collaboration with White Lion,” Cheryl Crow, treasurer for ArtWorks Westfield, said in a statement.

The new location builds on earlier collaboration with ArtWorks Westfield at 53 Elm St., the brewer reported.

– In Springfield, White Lion already operates a Wednesday beer garden at One Financial Plaza, 1350 Main St., but plans to also set up at a new second location at The Plaza, at 1550 Main St., home of the Springfield School Department and other government offices.

The gardens will operate Wednesdays starting at 4 p.m., until Aug. 28.

Evan Plotkin, owner of the 1350 Main St. plaza used, said White Lion events have been “a huge success.”

“It created a space at the end of the workday to unwind. It is important for our downtown economy to be a place where people can have fun networking, listening to music, and enjoying the outdoor streetscape,” Plotkin said in a statement.
