Tony McFarr, the actor who was Chris Pratt’s stunt double in the “Jurassic World” movies and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” died this week. He was 47.
McFarr, a Hollywood stunt performer in more than 60 productions, was found dead Monday at his home in Orlando. Florida’s Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office said a cause of death remains pending while toxicology tests are conducted, People magazine said.
McFarr’s mother, Donna, said the exact circumstances of his death weren’t yet known, but that “his passing is unexpected and shocking,” according to TMZ, which first reported McFarr’s death.
Pratt, posting on Instagram, said he was devastated by the news, describing McFarr not just as his stunt double, but also as a friend.
“We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars and spent endless hours on set,” Pratt said. “I’ll never forget his toughness. … He was always a gentleman and a professional. He’ll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter.”
Since 2011, McFarr worked in dozens of productions as a stunt double, including 2014′s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” IMDB said.
He connected with Pratt, 44, on the set of 2015′s “Jurassic World.” Later movies included other films in the Marvel series, such as “Captain America: Civil War,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” work.
Pratt posted a photo of himself with McFarr, both in costume as his character Star-Lord on the Guardians of the Galaxy set back in 2016 on Instagram.
In the post, he celebrated completion of the second movie of the Guardians trilogy’s trilogy.
“Here’s me and my stunt-man Tony McFarr (also Tommy Harper stunt coordinator and our first AD Lars Winther) on set,” Pratt wrote. “Been working with Tony since “Jurassic World.” Love you buddy! Happy wrap!”
