Testimony in the trial of Karen Read, a Mansfield woman charged in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, continues on Thursday at 9 a.m.
Read, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of O’Keefe, who was found cold to the touch and unresponsive on Jan. 29, 2022, outside of a home in Canton.
Norfolk County prosecutors charged Read after his death and stated that she struck O’Keefe with her SUV while driving intoxicated. Read’s attorney, David Yannetti, said during the trial’s opening statements that her car never struck O’Keefe and that others are to blame for his death.
The trial is taking place in Dedham’s Norfolk County Superior Court.
Cross-examination of witness Colin Albert is expected to take place Thursday morning. He’s the nephew of Brian Albert, the homeowner of 34 Fairview Road when O’Keefe’s body was found.
Colin Albert was picked up at about 12:10 a.m. on Jan. 29, 2022, according to screenshots of text messages provided to police and shown in court on Wednesday.
Allison McCabe, who testified on Wednesday and picked up Albert that morning, is a close friend of Colin Albert and they share relatives — Brian and Nicole Albert.
McCabe said on Wednesday she’s received “constant phone calls, emails, awful messages,” and other harassment in connection with the Read case.
The trial continues Thursday at 9 a.m. This story will be updated throughout the day as testimony unfolds.
