Live updates from the Karen Read trial

The trial of Karen Read, a Mansfield woman charged in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend, John O’Keefe, resumes on Monday with defense’s cross-examination of a witness.

Read, 44, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of O’Keefe, who was found cold to the touch and unresponsive on Jan. 29, 2022, outside of a home in Canton.

Norfolk County prosecutors charged Read after his death and stated that she struck O’Keefe with her SUV while driving intoxicated. Read’s attorney, David Yannetti, said during the trial’s opening statements that her car never struck O’Keefe and that others are to blame for his death.

Testimony is expected to begin with witness Brian Albert, a retired Boston police officer who owned 34 Fairview Road, the home where O’Keefe’s body was found.

Albert described Jan. 29, 2022, as, “A very chaotic, unbelievably chaotic morning” during testimony last Friday.

Last week, friends of O’Keefe and members of the Albert family testified about what they saw on the night of Jan. 28, 2022, when they went out for drinks and were joined by O’Keefe and Read.
