Maine native on ‘American Idol’ earns final platinum ticket of the season

The final platinum ticket was awarded to the final contestant auditioning on this season of “American Idol.”

Julia Gagnon of Cumberland, Maine is headed straight to the second round of Hollywood Week with a platinum ticket after a stellar audition.

The contestant performed “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin, wowing the judges.

“I loved that. Look, you’ve got several soul singers inside of you not just one. You could go really far. You could be Top 10,” judge Katy Perry told her.

Judge Luke Bryan echoed those thoughts, calling her “one of the biggest voices this season.”

After awarding her a golden ticket, judges followed her down the audition room hall granting her a platinum ticket instead.

Those contestants who are granted the platinum ticket not only get to advance to Hollywood, like their gold-ticketed peers, but they also get to skip the first Hollywood round. The platinum tickets are awarded by judges based on contestants who stand out in their audition.

“Every once in a while, we have someone that comes along that’s just phenomenal,” judge Lionel Richie said.

“American Idol” will air every Sunday at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. Those looking to stream the show can do so on FuboTV. The platform offers a free trial for new users.

The show also streams on Hulu with a subscription. Those who sign up will get their first month free. Plans for Hulu start as low as $7.99 a month and give you access to thousands of shows and movies.
