Steelers are getting a new QB, an old Patriots Super Bowl nemesis

Russell Wilson is on the move again, with the veteran quarterback making his intentions clear over the weekend. He’s going to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 35-year-old quarterback acknowledged the news Sunday night in a post on social media, writing “Year 13. Grateful. @Steelers” and posting a Steelers hype video set to the tune of the team’s unofficial anthem, “Renegade” by Styx.

Wilson was able to shop the free agent market early after the Denver Broncos made it clear that they plan to cut the quarterback when the new league year starts on March 13.

The signing is a big move for the Steelers. Kenny Pickett, a first-round pick in 2022, hadn’t quite shown that he was the guy for Pittsburgh long-term. With Wilson coming to town, it appears the team is going in a new direction at quarterback.

Wilson is a familiar face for Patriots fans from his days with the Seattle Seahawks. One of his most infamous moments came at the end of Super Bowl XLIX when he threw a dramatic game-sealing interception to Malcolm Butler at the goal line.

Since then, Wilson has changed teams twice. After his relationship with the Seahawks went south, Wilson was shipped to Denver as part of a blockbuster trade. The deal was a complete bust for the Broncos. Wilson got off to a brutal start in 2022. Things didn’t get better when the team brought in Sean Payton as coach this offseason.

Wilson was eventually benched in Denver, at which point it was clear that the team would be going in a new direction at quarterback.
