A storm that hit Massachusetts Tuesday night is finally dying down this morning. But even as the strong winds stop, residents should be wary of frigid wind chill temperatures Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the state is still under a wind advisory through 7 a.m. Thursday morning, as gusts are expected slow to less than 40 mph around that time, according to the weather service. Even so, combined with a cold front that came in overnight, 20 to 30 mph wind gusts are predicted to make already cool temperatures feel even chillier.
Highs in the mid to low 30s are expected on Thursday, but with the wind, they are predicted to feel like they are in the teens and 20s throughout the day, according to the weather service. Higher elevations and northern areas of the state are predicted to feel some of the coldest wind chills, with cities such as Worcester and Greenfield expected to experience wind chill temperatures around 14 degrees at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Some areas of Central and Western Massachusetts have a 20% chance of snow after 1 p.m. on Thursday, but no accumulation is expected, according to the weather service. Clouds are predicted to increase across the state as the day goes on amid blustery winds.
Thankfully, Thursday is the odd day out when it comes to weather this week. Warmer temperatures are expected to return on Friday after overnight lows in the upper teens and low 20s overnight Thursday, according to the weather service. Highs on Friday are predicted to be in the low mid 40s amid sunny skies, and highs in the upper 40s and low 50s are expected amid rain on Saturday and Sunday.
