Retail stores typically come and go and that will be no different in 2024 as old stores close up shop and make way for new stores at the Holyoke Mall.
Two new restaurants are slated to open this year, one serving Brazilian grilled food, inviting patrons to a blend of new flavors from another country. Another eatery will serve sugary milkshakes.
The new stores come when more than 10% of the Holyoke Mall’s square footage is planned to be remodeled or renewed in the early months of 2024, according to a press release from mall management.
Over 56,000 square feet of the Holyoke Mall is set to undergo construction, the press release stated. The construction ranges from store refreshes to new openings.
“Our local and national partners’ reinvestments in our center, and our community, indicate the strength and longevity of retail and their commitment to our shoppers,” Lynn Gray, the Holyoke Mall general manager, wrote in a statement.
The brands that are extending their leases represent more than 106,000 square feet and showcase the Holyoke Mall’s impact in the region with multi-year investments, the press release read.
Here is what’s to come and what’s to leave at the Holyoke Mall this year.
Terra Nossa Brazilian Grill opens in spring 2024, Ruth-Ann Hastings, the marketing director for the Holyoke Mall, told MassLive in an email.
Terra Nossa brings traditional Brazilian meals to the American public. At this Brazilian barbecue restaurant, you can choose ingredients to build your meal, according to the restaurant’s website. Patrons can choose from meats like steak and brisket with sides such as friend yucca and Brazilian banana.
People can also enjoy burgers such as the Terra Nossa bacon egg cheeseburger and the chicken sandwich.
“From our land, our Brazil, to yours! In our country, our cuisine is unmistakable in flavor,” Terra Nossa wrote on its website. “Our rice, beans, and meats are distinctly Brazilian. We refuse to compromise on quality or our seasoning! Everyone who visits one of our stores falls in love with our ‘Brazilian way’—personal service with a smile that embodies our land, Brazil.”
Milkshake Lovers is also set to open in the Holyoke Mall this year, according to Hastings. And they don’t call the restaurant “Milkshake Lovers” for nothing — this restaurant serves milkshakes with big flavors, such as Nutella Heaven and Peanut Butter Bomb. They also offer açai shakes and parfaits, smoothies and sundaes.
Milkshake Lovers has locations in the Natick Mall, Burlington Mall, Pheasant Lane Mall, The Mall at Rockingham and Cape Cod Mall, according to Hastings.
But, as two new restaurants find a home at the Holyoke Mall, at least one store will leave in 2024, which might be a big loss for sports fans.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Warehouse Sale Store is closing in mid-February, according to Hastings.
The athletic equipment store in Holyoke was expected to shut down since it was a temporary pop-up shop. Dick’s has locations in 20 Massachusetts cities, including West Springfield, Medford and Brockton.
