Kyrie Irving suffers foot injury, did not leave game in wheelchair

There was a scary scene late in the second quarter that involved former Celtics guard Kyrie Irving. After the Mavericks guard went up for a contested layup, he fell onto the floor. That’s when his teammate in Dwight Powell went up for the rebound, but Powell unfortunately landed on Irving’s right leg.

That knocked out Irving for the rest of the game with the foot injury. He stayed in to shoot his free throws, but he didn’t appear for the rest of the Mavericks’ 125-112 win over the Blazers in Portland.

There was some peculiarity that came from the situation. It was reported on the Blazers’ television broadcast that Irving left the game in a wheelchair. That led to some speculation on social media about the star guard’s injury status moving forward.

But Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said postgame that was not indeed the case. Kidd said Irving hadn’t left the building and was still inside the Moda Center. He didn’t have an update on Irving’s foot injury as he said they would know more Saturday.

Regardless, the injury didn’t look great as Irving had to leave the game early. Fortunately, it doesn’t like it was so serious that he had to leave the game in an wheelchair or anything else.
