While on house arrest, gang member started posting photos of guns to Snapchat

While a Boston gang member was on house arrest, he began posting photos of himself with guns to a Snapchat group.

Trevon Bell, 27, of Boston and Lynn, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm Tuesday.

Law enforcement intercepted a group chat on Snapchat that included people regularly posting photos of themselves with firearms in 2021. Officials said Bell was part of this group.

But Bell was on house arrest with a GPS bracelet for location monitoring after he was indicted on three separate unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition cases when he was posting some of the photos.

One video posted on Nov. 24, 2021 showed him in possession of a black semi-automatic Glock 9 millimeter firearm over a toilet, acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy said. The gun has since been recovered.

The charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm provides for a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes which govern the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.

Bell’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 29.
