The Patriots have a lot of questions to answer this offseason — particularly identifying who the players are that they want to build around.
New England has some obvious choices like rookie Christian Gonzalez, whose season was cut short due to injury. But who else should the Patriots decide to carry into the future?
On the latest episode of “Eye On Foxborough,” MassLive Patriots reporters Chris Mason and Mark Daniels gave a few names who they believe the Pats should invest in.

“You have Christian Gonzalez, he’s the guy. And then a lot of question marks. How do you value running backs? Do you put Rhamondre Stevenson into that conversation?,” Mason said. “Slow start this year , ast couple games it looks like he’s running angry again. he looks like himself. He’s someone that you could build around but you’re gonna pay a running back?”
Daniels is of the belief that New England should pay to keep Stevenson around because he won’t “break the bank.”
“He’s one of your best offensive players. He’s 25 years old and the running back market stinks for these guys. I actually feel bad for running backs,” he said. “I don’t think he’ll break the bank. I think the Patriots could keep him. Another guy who stood out this year is Demario “Pop” Douglas.Sixth-round pick. I think with Demario Douglas you get a capable slot receiver who could, at the very least, be a Danny Amendola-type, a 600-yard-type guy who returns punts.”
The Patriots haven’t given up this season despite a 2-6 start and a quiet NFL trade deadline. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt if they got a head start on 2024.
