A person who was cleaning a Medford man’s house gave him the winning $1 million lottery ticket they found sitting forgotten inside one of his vases, the Massachusetts State Lottery said.
Khalil Soussa of Medford won $1 million from the lottery’s “$15,000,000 Money Maker” scratch ticket game, and came forward to claim his prize on Oct. 12.
Soussa said he’d bought the winning ticket a few months ago, but only recently found out it was a big winner. The Medford man’s house cleaner found the scratch ticket inside a vase, and gave it to him, the lottery said.
Soussa, who chose the cash option on his prize and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes, said he will use some of the winnings to “help a friend,” the lottery said, and will also donate some to charity.
He bought his “$15,000,000 Money Maker” scratch ticket at Tony’s Convenience at 416 Salem St. in his home city. The convenience store will also receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
A similar story with a different outcome for both parties happened earlier in the year, when a store clerk cashier found a $3 million winning ticket left mistakenly behind by its owner in January on the counter and tried to claim the prize as her own.
