Could Massachusetts see snow this weekend?

Some forecasters are predicting parts of Massachusetts could get its first snowflakes of the season this weekend.

A majority of the state is going to experience a rainy weekend. But WCVB forecasters predicted there is a possibility for snow in higher elevations of the Berkshires and Green Mountains of Vermont late Sunday night through Monday morning.

Still, the news outlet reported, it will depend on how quickly the colder air comes in. And even then, “very little, if any, accumulation is expected.”

Either way, Sunday will bring a reminder “that November is not far away,” according to AccuWeather, which also predicted possible snow in those areas.

A nor’easter is expected to bring rain to much of the state over the weekend, AccuWeather stated.

As of Friday morning, only the northern portion of the state is under a limited risk for excessive rainfall on Saturday with more parts of the state being at a limited to elevated risk of wind, according to a hazardous weather outlook map. There is also the potential for wind gusts up to 40 mph on Saturday.

The National Weather Service stated rain is likely to start after 11 a.m. on Friday and could last until Monday.

“Looking wet late Friday and Saturday with widespread rain followed by gusty winds Saturday night and Sunday,” the National Weather Service wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

However, Monday will have dry weather “with a warm up for the middle of the week,” the weather service said.
