The Springfield Police Department is upping its traffic enforcement following two fatal crashes that happened on the same day on the same street in the city, calling the section a “problem area for speeding.”
On Friday, Oct. 6, there were two crashes on Parker Street in the city — the first, involving a single car, happened around 12:10 a.m. around the 100 block where the street splits into Cooley Street. The second happened around 6 p.m. that day by the 500 block near Boston Road, and involved a motorcyclist and a car.
Stephanie Croteau, of Springfield, was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight on Friday following the crash, while the driver of the motorcycle in the second crash died at Baystate Medical Center on Monday. Both crashes are being investigated by the Springfield Police Traffic Unit.
