6 people injured after ‘unsecured door’ causes crash in Mass.

An unsecured door caused a crash in Havard on Monday afternoon when it broke free of the vehicle it was attached to and hit a telephone pole, causing a dumpster to hit a car in the opposite lane, injuring six people, one seriously, according to police.

The crash happened around 3:14 p.m. near 128 Poor Farm Road in Harvard on Wednesday. Investigators believe it was caused by an unsecured door attached to a commercial vehicle carrying a dumpster. The door swung open and hit a telephone pole in the eastbound lane of the road. The force of that impact dislodged the dumpster from its hinges, causing the dumpster to rotate across the truck and hit an SUV traveling west in the oncoming lane, Havard Police said in a brief statement posted to the department’s Facebook page.

The driver of the SUV was taken to UMass Worcester Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. An additional five people were taken by ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, according to police.
