4 workers accused of stealing from Massport Logan Express sites

Workers at a pair of Logan Express sites will face criminal charges after officials say they stole bus ticket revenues, prompting their firing, according to a statement from the Massachusetts Port Authority.

In all, four employees of ABM Industry Groups, which oversaw revenue collection and operations at the Logan Express sites, are facing unspecified criminal charges, the statement reads. Three of the four employees worked at the Braintree Logan Express site, while the fourth worked out of the Framingham site.

Officials did not provide the names of the employees or the criminal charges they face.

Massport has since terminated its contract with ABM.

The authority was “made aware” of suspicious activity at the Braintree and Framingham sites earlier this year, prompting an investigation by State Police.

Initially, the authority received a tip through its fraud, waste and abuse hotline about a potential theft of bus ticket revenue at the Braintree site. The State Police investigation confirmed that cash payments of bus tickets were stolen by three employees, according to the statement.

Then, in June, the investigation extended to the Framingham site based on the receipt of additional information. That investigation prompted the filing of a charge against an additional employee in August, according to the statement.

“At Massport, we demand honesty and the highest level of service from our contractors, and I am deeply disappointed by the failures of ABM at our Braintree and Framingham Logan Express sites,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey in the statement.

The authority has hired Deloitte, a forensic auditor, to conduct an audit of all Logan Express sites managed by ABM. A new operator will begin overseeing the sites next month.
