A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old on Shannon Street in Worcester in February, the third person to face charges tied to the killing, according to police.
Patrick Mathieu, of Paine Street in Worcester, is charged with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, use of a firearm while committing a felony, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, possession of ammunition without an FID Card, and armed assault to rob, Worcester Police said in a statement.
Mathieu is now the third person to face charges in connection with the shooting, which took place on Feb. 12. On Feb. 24, police arrested a man and a woman in Gardner. Kidam Oquendo, 21, of Worcester, is charged with armed assault with intent to murder, attempted assault and battery by firearm and four firearms charges. Alexis Medeiros, 18, of Gardner, is charged with accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice.
It was 3:16 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, when officers went to the area of Shannon Street after having been alerted by a ShotSpotter activation, police said previously.
The officers did not find a gunshot victim but did find evidence that shots had been fired, according to police.
The Worcester Police Department began to check local hospitals for gunshot victims and found a 17-year-old boy, who’d been pronounced dead, police said.
The 17-year-old boy killed has not been publicly identified.
