A 35-year-old Roxbury woman was killed on Sunday when she was hit by a car on Route 3 in Braintree after exiting the car she was a passenger in when it struck a deer to assess the damage to the vehicle, Massachusetts State Police said.
At around 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, State Police went to Route 3 in Braintree, where they found a 63-year-old Roxbury man and his passenger, later identified as Magdalena Desrosiers. Both the man and Desrosiers were taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A spokesman for State Police did not immediately respond when asked what the man’s condition was Tuesday morning.
Investigators believe a 2013 Toyota RAV4 was headed northbound on Route 3 when it hit a deer and came to a stop in the right lane. Both the driver and Desrosiers got out of the car to assess the damage to the vehicle, when a Jaguar F-PACE SUV traveling in the right lane swerved into the breakdown lane to avoid hitting the car. As it did so, the SUV hit Desrosiers.
The crash forced the closure of the center and right lanes of Route 3 for close to three-and-a-half hours, State Police said.
