Three people, including two children, were seriously injured in one of two crashes that left traffic on the Massachusetts Turnpike at a standstill in Charlton on Monday, according to Massachusetts State Police.
At around 2:45 p.m., troopers learned of two crashes within 1 mile of each other at exit 84 on the highway, a state police spokesperson wrote in a statement.
The first crash involved a truck that carried a forklift before crashing into a guardrail, state police said. A flatbed truck carrying a Jeep swerved to avoid the crash and lost the Jeep, which landed on the roadway. A third vehicle, a tractor-trailer, swerved to avoid the Jeep in the road and hit a box truck.
